不定代名詞 all both each
ここでは不定代名詞の all, both, each の使い方を解説していきます。
◆数を表す場合は３つ（人）以上のものについて使われることになります。
All were safe and sound.
「みんな無事で以上ありませんでした。」

All (of) the candidates passed the employment test.
「志願者全員がその採用試験に受かった。」

※この場合 all の後ろに of を付けなくても同じ表現ができますが、us や them などの人称代名詞が付く場合は of を省略できません。
All of them are descendants of Japanese immigrants.
「彼らはみんな日本人移民の子孫です。」
◆物事を表したり不可算名詞などに付いたりする場合は、単数形で受けるのが普通です。
All we need is freedom.
「私たちに必要なのは自由だけだ。」
My children were reciting the alphabet all (the) morning.
「子供たちは午前中ずっとアルファベットの暗唱をしていました。」
◆基本的には「両方とも」という意味で、人やものが、２人または２つであることを表します。
We both come from Brazil.
「私たちは２人ともブラジルの出身です。」
Both (the) men were illegal intruders.
「その男性の二人ともが不法入国者であった。」
※これを of を付けて表すと次のようになり of の後ろの the は省略できません。
Both of the men were illegal intruders.
◆ ２つまたは２人以上について「それぞれの」などの意味で使われますが、基本的には単数として扱われるので注意してください。
Each of the gorilla has a pretty name.
「それぞれのゴリラにはかわいい名前が付いています。」
each の直後に名詞がくることもよくあります。
Each person assumes an important role.
「各人が大切な役割を担っている。」
